Pottery painting for kids in Krakow – an idea for autumn and winter

Short days, rain, then frost… and the same question again: what to do with kids in Krakow in autumn and winter? Pottery painting is fun for little ones and grown-ups alike, and you get a real keepsake to take home: a mug, a plate or a figurine painted by your own hand. At Namalujse Café on Karmelicka Street, kids paint, parents enjoy their coffee, and the mess stays with us, not at home! 🎨

Dlaczego malowanie ceramiki to dobry pomysł dla dziecka?

  • It sparks imagination and patience. Kids choose their own colours and designs, then see the result of their work.
  • It builds fine motor skills. Careful brush strokes are great practice for little hands.
  • The joy lasts longer. The painted mug comes back from the kiln ready to use, so your child can drink hot chocolate from it for years.
  • It’s a break from screens. An hour or two of focus with paints instead of a tablet.

What does pottery painting with kids look like at Namalujse Café?

  1. Book a table online and come to Karmelicka 27 in the centre of Krakow (open daily 10:00–22:00).
  2. Your child picks the piece of pottery they want to paint from the shelf. We have mugs, plates, bowls, figurines, piggy banks – everything your heart desires!
  3. You get paints, brushes and tips on how to start painting pottery.
  4. Your child paints, and you can join in or sit back with a coffee and a delicious dessert.
  5. We fire the pottery in our kiln, and when it’s ready to collect (within 14 working days), we’ll send you a text message. We can also ship your masterpieces by courier to any address you choose.

What can kids paint?

  • Mug – for hot chocolate, with their name or a favourite animal.
  • Plate – for example, for Santa’s cookies.
  • Figurine – small pieces that are the quickest to paint, perfect for the youngest artists.
  • Pet bowl – for their beloved furry friend.
  • A gift for grandma, grandpa or a teacher – kids love making handmade presents! Psst! And if you’re the one looking for a gift, give a pottery painting voucher for Namalujse Café in Krakow.

What to do with kids in Krakow in autumn and winter?

In autumn and winter, playgrounds empty out and parents look for indoor activities for kids. Pottery painting works whatever the weather and needs no preparation. Here are a few ideas for the season:

  • A rainy weekend in November – an afternoon with paints instead of another cartoon.
  • Before St Nicholas Day and Christmas – your child paints a handmade giftfor their grandparents or a plate for Santa’s cookies. The pottery needs to be fired, so it’s best to come by early December.
  • Winter holidays in Krakow– a creative break between the ice rink and the cinema.
  • A winter walk in the city centre – we’re close to the Planty park and the Main Square, and you can warm up here with coffee, tea and a truly special atmosphere!

How to prepare?

  • Book a table. It’s not required, but it’s always appreciated – especially at weekends!
  • Dress your child in something you don’t mind getting messy – paint is paint 😉
  • Plan for about 2 hours. Younger kids paint for a shorter time, while older ones can spend longer on their design, so keep that in mind when planning your day.
  • Just bring your good mood and we’ll take care of the rest!
